Five benefits of allowing a child to seek support within a therapeutic space.

As the world evolves, so does the need for a child to seek support. Often a child will seek support from parents, teachers and close peers. But often us as parents and teachers are overwhelmed by the daily stressors of life that when a child confides in us, and they do not get a response that helps them. They begin to rather not speak up and turn within themselves. Therefore, allowing your child to seek support within a therapeutic space can be beneficial.


Expressing of Emotions

The therapeutic space is a safe environment for a child to work through their

emotions openly and honestly. It is a space without judgment. The space also allows them to develop and explore healthy coping mechanisms. This in turn helps our children to improve their emotional regulation and manage in the complicated world.


Understanding Emotions and Feelings

The therapeutic space can help provide a space for a child to work together with

their therapist/ counsellor to understands the various feelings, emotions and

behaviours they have. As well as looking at what may be causing these emotions.

For example, a child is feeling agitated, so they snap at a friend, making the other

person feel horrible. But in turn they are worried about their test tomorrow. Thus,

identifying that they are stressed and worried but not actually angry at their friends.


Skills development & gaining access to useful tools.

Within this space, a child can begin learning valuable communication tools, problem solving tools and conflict resolution tools. It is important from a young age for children to begin learning assertive communication tools in order to navigate challenges and establish healthy relationships. As well as other tools such as calming tools to help them when they are feeling overwhelmed.


Early Intervention

By allowing a child to seek help early, it can aid in preventing problems from

escalating and to address underlying concerns that may be presenting.


Having a safe space & feeling supported.

The school environment is a fast paced and busy environment. By providing them

with a safe and supportive environment, it can help a child to get through some

challenges that are bothering them. As well as to get them
