It is important to know why we offer our service and what that means for you. Below we will outline our expectations of our sessions as well as what you can expect in your first session.

WHAT COUNSELLING IS...

  • A Safe Space for Expression:

Counselling provides a confidential and non-judgmental environment where individuals can freely express their thoughts, emotions, and concerns.

  • Collaborative and Supportive:

It involves a collaborative relationship between the counseLlor and the individual, working together to explore and understand personal challenges.

  • Goal-Oriented Conversations:

CounseLling sessions focus on setting and achieving specific goals, empowering individuals to make positive changes in their lives.

  • Professional Guidance:

Counsellors are trained professionals who offer guidance, insights, and coping strategies to help navigate through life's difficulties.

  • Emotional Exploration:

Counselling encourages the exploration of emotions and thoughts, fostering self-awareness and promoting emotional well-being.

  • Confidentiality and Privacy:

Counsellors adhere to strict confidentiality standards, ensuring that personal information shared during sessions remains private.

  • Empathy and Understanding:

Counsellors provide empathy and understanding, offering a supportive presence to help individuals process their experiences.

  • Skill Development:

It includes the development of coping skills and tools to better manage stress, anxiety, and other challenges.

WHAT COUNSELLING ISN'T...

  • Solely Advice-Giving:

Counselling is not about giving direct advice; instead, it empowers individuals to discover their own insights and solutions.

  • Judgment or Criticism:

Counsellors do not judge or criticise; their role is to create a safe space for exploration and understanding.

  • A One-Size-Fits-All Solution:

It is not a one-size-fits-all approach; counselling is tailored to each individual's unique needs and experiences.

  • Quick Fix:

Counselling is not a quick fix. It involves a process of self-discovery and personal growth that takes time and commitment.

  • For "Weak" Individuals:

Seeking counselling is not a sign of weakness; rather, it is a courageous step towards self-improvement and mental well-being.

  • A Permanent Label:

Counselling does not label individuals; it helps them understand and manage challenges they may be facing.

  • An Endorsement of Blame:

It does not assign blame. Instead, counselling explores various factors contributing to challenges, aiming for understanding and resolution.

  • A Replacement for Friendship:

While counselling provides support, it is not a substitute for the role of friends or family. It complements existing relationships but does not replace them.

Most people seek counselling as they want something in their life to change but often they have misconceptions about the process, therefore it is important to know what to expect. In most cases during your first online counselling session you'll be answering basic questions primarily about your medical and family history, reasons for seeking counselling and discussing confidentiality, among other topics.
